The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drizella into the family home. But, when Ella's father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella since she used to work in the cinders, Ella could easily begin to lose hope.

Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who abuse her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an employee at the Palace,

Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears as if her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella's hopes of once again encountering the charming "Kit." Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand as a kindly beggar woman steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella's life forever

Tapi mesti seronok jugak bila filem ni jadi live action :D

Selain Lilly James (Cinderella) dan Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett sebagai Lady Tremaine, Oscar Nominee Helena Bonham Carter akan memainkan peranan Fairy Godmother.

Dari Wanita Bertanduk Dua (Review: Maleficent)

Hampir putus asa kerana kecewa di tempat tinggal sekarang agak sukar untuk mendapatkan panggung wayang. Namun rasa keputusasaan itu diubati dengan panggung King’s Tioplex yang terletak di Bandar Sibu yang turut menayangkan filem dark fantasy ini.

  

Maleficent adalah figura ikonik untuk karakter jahat Disney maka pemilihan Angelina Jolie sebagai titular role watak itu adalah sangat tepat. Jangan cakap dari segi visual kerana bersesuaian dengan genre dark fantasy, dunia Maleficent kelihatan sempurna.

Ini adalah persembahan terbaru Angelina Jolie selepas filem terakhirnya Changeling, yang menominasikan Best Actress dalam Oscar, namun tewas di tangan Kate Winslet menerusi The Reader. Maleficent is all about Angelina Jolie. Transisi watak baik Maleficent kepada sisi hitamnya terserlah. Boleh aku kata yang Angelina Jolie mampu dicalon dalam mana-mana anugerah nanti?

 

Ada dua momen tragis dalam filem ini.

1   1 Ketika sayap Maleficent dicuri. Tangisannya meruntun seolah mahkotanya hilang. Kesedihannya dirasa

      2. Ketika babak Maleficent duduk ditepi katil memandang Aurora yang disumpah “sleeping like a death.” This is a heart wrenching scene.

Ketidakseimbangan Maleficent adalah menerusi perkembangan wataknya. Namun ianya tidaklah gagal seperti persembahan Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and a Huntsman beberapa tahun dulu ketika watak Queen Ravenna hampir menutupi charming Snow White (while we all know how Kristen Stewert act)

 

4 stars out of 5. Dazzling visuals effects, powerhouse performance by Angelina Jolie and quite a beautiful script written.

1.       Cinderella (2015) Directed by Kenneth Branagh. Cinderella will be play by Lilly James and evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine will be play by Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett

2.       Beauty and the Beast. It will be directed by Bill Condon with Emma Watson will play the titular role as Bella.
